Airway Transportation Systems Specialists (ATSS) display in the capability of highly specialized electronics technicians. ATSS personnel has installed, evaluated, maintained, modified and certified the facilities, services, and equipment supporting the National Aerospace System (NAS).
Airway Transportation Systems Specialist Jobs Responsibilities
The primary duties of ATSS are linked to maintaining the safe and efficient operating capability of the vast and complex network of electronics systems required for the world’s largest air traffic control and navigation system. They are also responsible for various assisting duties that contribute to providing reliable and secure FAA services to the flyers. It includes radar, communication, automation, and naval support equipment, as well as work with various environmental support facilities and equipment. The ATSS will need to keep knowledge in one or more specifications and follow some or all of the following duties:
Well-qualified applicants will document extensive knowledge and skills in operation, repair, installation, analysis, maintenance, problem-solving, modification and certification on the following or some of the following ground-based systems such as:
- Navigation Aids: Instrument landing system, very high-frequency Omnidirectional range, Doppler very high-frequency Omnidirectional range, strategic aircraft control and navigation, and distance measuring equipment (complete flight probe for some systems)
- Communication: Motorola, ITT or general mobility radio, UHF, VHS, satellite communication system, radio communication link repeater, low-density radio communication link repeater, small tower voice switch, advanced terminal voice switch, rapid deployment voice switch, digital voice recorder system, And the digital audio legal recorder.
Eligible applicants should document at least 1 year of specialized work experience equal to the next low level, which displays comprehensive knowledge of basic electrical and electronic theory; Ability to solve mathematical problems (algebra, trigonometry); Ability and ability to use various types of special testing equipment for equipment, materials, and maintenance, troubleshooting and repair:
- Navigation Aids: Non-directional beacon transmitter/receiver, very high-frequency omnidirectional range (VORS) aircraft equipment; Equipment landing system airborne equipment or global positioning system (GPS).
- Communication: radio receiver, cryptographic device, or central office / private branch exchange (PBX).

ATSS should be able to efficiently carry out necessary tasks of the situation without risk of self or others. Due to the nature of the job, usable vision (including color vision and close vision), hearing and speech may be required. ATMS may need to carry and/or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds; Climb stairs / stairs and towers up to 100 feet; Be able to bend or pile for extended period; Work in various environmental conditions (outside / extreme weather); Curved changes, weekends and/or vacations work; And probably travel up to 80% in the local area. Schools should be accredited by a recognized institution accredited by the American Education Department. The license of a valid driver is required.
Upon successful completion of training and facility certification, the candidate can be promoted to the H band without further competition.
